About us

Welcome to Blackthorn Labradors. We are located just south of Olympia, the capital of Washington, otherwise known as the "Evergreen" state. We've been busy over the last 55-plus years exhibiting, obedience trailing, running in hunt tests, duck and upland hunting, breeding, judging all over the world, and just plain loving our Labradors.  I (Barb) am a  Charter Member of the Rose City Labrador Retriever Club, Lifetime Member of Puget Sound Labrador Retriever Association, currently serving as President of the  Mt. Rainier Labrador Retriever Club, and serve on the Board of Directors for the Parent Club (LRC Inc.).  

All of our breeding  stock today is based upon our legendary Multiple Best in Specialty Show sire, Am/Can CH Monarch's Black Arrogance CD WC. This sire was the Top Producer for several years running (produce a minimum of five championships per year to gain this Top Producer distinction),  a notable sire for our kennel and for many others around the world.

A festive win for Dixie (Blackthorn Rocking M's Whistling Dixie)!  Our lovely girl took Best of Winners for a major at the Greater Clark County KC show on December 2, 2023, under judge Lorraine Bisso.

We're thrilled about  Kokie's (Blackthorn Mudslide WC) wins at the  Rose City Labrador Retriever Club Specialty on July 13, and

Puget Sound Labrador Retriever Association Specialty on August 3, 2023!  We're all smiles!

Our lovely girl Stevie has made us proud by winning her 4th major to finish her Championship!  This happened at the Seattle Kennel Club show, January 16, 2023. Stevie is now  CH Himoon Blackthorn Stevie Wonderful!

GinGin's fun first road trip to the Golden Gate Labrador Specialty, October 28-29, 2022.

Day 1 GinGin won Best in Sweepstakes from the 6-9 puppy class under judge Tom O'Hern, and Day 2 Best of Opposite Sex in Sweepstakes under judge Chris Courtney! We have high hopes for our puppy girl.

It's with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Lance. He was our first chocolate Lab and taught us so much about what it was to have a great Labrador without preference to color. He was always the happy gentleman and a great producer. His Get and Grandget will continue his legacy.
